Horticulture Corner: Dragon Tree

This tree (top), located in the grounds of the Heaven Temple, had a name that included dragons that I don’t exactly remember. Our guide told us that it is very old, and that it is so named because of the twisting trunks that resemble many dragons playing and flying together. I couldn’t even get a good picture because it was such a popular spot!IMG_2324 IMG_2351

Also pictured (bottom) is a tree that was on the grounds of the Buddhist Temple we visited near our hotel in Beijing. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it’s tipped almost horizontal to the ground and has the same twisted, interlocking bark patterns as the dragon tree. Two very different kinds of trees, as far as I can tell, with a really cool, similar appearance.
